About Carl D Jones

Carl is a graphic designer with over 30 years' experience in the design & creative industries.

He has spent most of his life doodling, drawing and collecting imagery. His exhibition at Shrewsbury Market Hall during December 2023 & January 2024 was his first solo display of his work. He has since exhibited at Shrewsbury's Visual Art Network, Pengwern Books in Shrewsbury and at Shrewsbury's Open Studio Weekends during the Summer of 2024. He will be exhibiting at Shrewsbury Market Hall again in November & December 2024.

Each doodle simply starts with Carl making a mark on a piece of paper – and seeing where it goes. The only plan is for the use of lines and shapes. He likes to use various weights of Fineliner & Rotring pen, Sharpies, Marker pens and bits of old Linocut – usually on white card in A4, A3 or A2.

Carl is influenced by popular culture, by words, music, buildings, lettering and signs – along with the shapes that we see around us on a daily basis.

Originally from North Wales and based in Shropshire since 2004, Carl did an Art Foundation at NEWI in Wrexham, followed by a BA (Hons) Degree in Graphic Design at the University of Central Lancashire. He then moved to London and spent 12 years at several design and branding agencies.

Since 2003, Carl has been the joint Creative Director of Branded by Jones (Carl Jones Design), the branding and communication agency he co-founded.
